Dr. Ira C. Kaplan
Dr. Ira C. Kaplan, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Agriculture in 1973. He simultaneously earned a Masters Degree in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. Dr. Kaplan moved to Billerica one week after graduation to become a staff veterinarian at McGrath Animal Hospital and currently serves as co-Director of the hospital.
Since 1986, Dr. Kaplan has volunteered, as an advocate of the disabled, for the National Education for Assistance Dog Services (NEADS) located in Princeton, Massachusetts. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors and serves as the Director of Veterinary Medical Services for the over 700 graduate dogs assisting deaf or disabled Americans. McGrath Animal Hospital is the facility where potential assistance dogs are screened for genetic diseases and cleared for work with the disabled.
In their 30 years of breeding and exhibiting Bullmastiffs, Dr. Kaplan and his wife have personally titled 8 breed champions. Their AKC obedience accomplishments include 7 Rally
Excellent titles, 10 Companion Dog titles leading to 6 Companion Dog Excellent titles, one of which achieved the ultimate title of Utility Dog. In their household resides 7 Bullmastiffs spanning 11 years and 4 generations.
Dr Kaplan’s special medical interests include dermatology and diseases of the ear. |
